Coach Parking and Facilities

Coach routes to both drop off points and long-term parking

 

The route to the main town centre Coach Park at Greenwell Road car park ‘D’ is clearly signposted from the main A1 slip roads at the southern end of the town into Alnwick: follow the signs for the town centre, pass Alnwick playhouse on your right and turn right just before Bondgate Tower (arch) onto Greenwell Road. Follow the road along to Part D of the car park for the Coach drop-off point. There are three All Day coach parking spaces here.

 

There is also a dedicated coach drop-off/pick-up point on the right-hand side at the entrance to Greenwell Lane, adjacent to Greenwell Lane car park “A” and opposite the Greenwell Lane public toilets.

 

Access from the north is not recommended owing to the need to avoid the restricted-height medieval Hotspur Tower and coaches for the Town Centre are guided to the main A1 slip road at the southern end of the town and the route to the main town centre Coach Park at Greenwell Road car park ‘D’ instead.

 

Coach parking for The Alnwick Garden and Alnwick Castle is signposted from the Denwick Lane A1 turn-off.

 

 

 

Coach Parking and provision to drop passengers

 

Designated coach parking to drop passengers is located at the heart of Alnwick, in the main car park, car park ‘D’, at Greenwell Road and also at the dedicated drop-off/pick up point near to the entrance on Greenwell Road. These are is a very short distance from the attractions and facilities in the historic town centre and Market Place which are accessed through a safe, pedestrian passageway, Greenwell Lane, clearly visible from the Coach Park.  The main entrances to Alnwick Castle and The Alnwick Garden are also a short distance away from this coach and car park and are signposted and accessed via pedestrian pavements. The Alnwick Garden has 14 coach parking bays

 

There are no time restrictions on coach parking at Greenwell Lane “D” coach park nor at The Alnwick Garden coach park.

 

There is no charge for coaches parking in Alnwick or at Alnwick Castle or The Alnwick Garden.

 

There is also coach parking at Swansfield Park (postcode NE66

1AT) and at Willowburn Sports & Leisure Centre (postcode NE66 2JH)  however both these sites are on the southern edge of the town about 2km outside the town centre.

 

 

Access to toilets

 

The main Alnwick public toilets are located at Northumberland Hall, close to the Market Place in Alnwick town centre, approx. 400 metres from the designated coach park at Greenwell Road car park ‘D’.  There are also public toilets at the entrance to Greenwell Road opposite Greenwell Lane Car Park “A” and a Coach drop-off point.

 

Other toilets, within the Queen’s Head, the Blue Bell and The George public houses and at Costa Coffee, all in Alnwick town centre, are all available for the free use of the public through the “You’re Welcome” scheme; there is no requirement to buy drinks, etc. at any of these establishments in order to use their toilets.

 

The Alnwick Garden’s modern toilets and refreshment facilities are open to all coach drivers. The Alnwick Garden toilet facilities recently received a Platinum Award for “Loo of the Year”

 

 

Rest room facilities

 

There are more than adequate comfort facilities at The Alnwick Garden after coach drivers have dropped-off their passengers.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Coach wash facilities

 

Rothbury Motors has a coach wash/toilet drop available to visiting coaches at its depot at Alnwick Lionheart Business Park, with prior arrangement, at £15. Please contact 01665 606616.

 

 

Concessionary rates for meals etc.

 

Coach drivers coming into The Alnwick Garden are given a £5 voucher for The Alnwick Garden and Castle

 

 

Facilities for group comfort

 

There are numerous shops and food outlets within the town centre approx. 100 metres from to the coach park at Greenwell Road ‘D’ to purchase refreshments

 

The Alnwick Garden and Alnwick Castle are substantial visitor attractions which handle large numbers of large groups every day and The Alnwick Garden is tailor-made for groups. There is a coach drop- close to the main Garden ticket office and the toilets, café, retail shop and fish and chip shop all within a two-minute walk.

 

The Alnwick Garden provides free mobility scooters to visitors.

 

 

 

Toilet provision for disabled coach passengers

 

Toilet facilities for the disabled are located at the main Alnwick public toilets at Northumberland Hall close to the Market Place in Alnwick town centre, approx. 300 metres from the designated coach park at Greenwell Road car park ‘D’.  There are also disabled public toilets at the entrance to Greenwell Road itself, adjacent to Greenwell Lane car park “A” and a coach drop-off point.

 

The toilets within the Queen’s Head, the Blue Bell and The George public houses and at Costa Coffee, all in Alnwick town centre, all available to the public to use through the “You’re Welcome” scheme, are all disabled friendly.

 

The Alnwick Garden’s modern toilets and refreshment facilities are all disabled friendly and a fully accessible toilet with hoist is located within its retail shop.

 

 

Facilities to handle disabled and mobility impaired passengers

 

Passenger access into Alnwick Town Centre from Greenwell Road coach park is all via ramp (no steps) and dedicated pedestrian passageway (Greenwell Lane).

 

The Alnwick Garden provides free mobility scooters to visitors.

 

There is space for the operation of vehicle wheelchair access lifts at the main Coach Park in Greenwell Road and at The Alnwick Garden.

 

The Alnwick Garden is wheelchair friendly from the Coach drop off point throughout the Garden.
