Bikers will roar back into Alnwick

Alnwick Town Centre will once again be full of motorbikes when The Geordie Chapter of the Harley Davidson Owners’ Group (HOG) visit on Saturday June 25th 2022 as part of its annual “ABC” charity ride.

Around 70 Harley Davidsons will be parked up in Bondgate Within from around 11.30am until 1.30pm when the public will be able to view the impressive bikes and show support for the biker’s charity collections.

John Nichol (Ride Leader) said: “The ABC is an annual charity ride from the HOG Geordie Chapter, it’s called the ABC as there was a time when we started the ride at “A” Albamarle Barracks (Army) we then ride through Northumberland stopping at Alnwick on our way to “B” Boulmer (Air Force base) and to end the ride we would ride from Boulmer down the coast to HMS Calliope (Royal Navy Reserve Unit) however we now end our ride at the Volunteer Life Brigade Watch House (Naval).”

“So in line with these locations we raise money during the ride for: Red Cypher, The RAF Benevolent Fund and The Volunteer Life Brigade Watch House. Last year we presented each of our three hosts with a cheque for £250 each from money we raised during our ride, This year we will have a great selection of Harley Davidson motor cycles for you to look at during our 75mins at Alnwick, please do come along and see us!”

To enable parking of the bikes and safe viewing by the public, a road closure for Bondgate Within will be in place from 10am to 2pm. The street will be closed to traffic from outside The Yorkshire Trading Co. along the full length and width of Bondgate Within to its junction with Narrowgate, adjacent to W.H. Smith. All parking spaces within these boundaries will also be closed between 10am to 2pm.

This will also mean that deliveries, etc. to all shops, offices and dwellings on Bondgate Within and Narrowgate will not be possible at any time between these times.

Staff and volunteers will be on hand at the barrier outside Yorkshire Trading Co. in case of the need for emergency access to Bondgate Within.

Alnwick Town Council is covering the cost of the road closure and the event is being arranged by John Nicholl of HOG and Tim Kirton at Alnwick Town Council.
