Alnwick Rotary Club is again liaising with Alnwick Town Council and Alnwick in Bloom to plant thousands of purple crocus in town.
This year the crocus are being planted on Column Field, augmenting earlier planting there, so extending their reach and replacing those destroyed by trees falling on them in Storm Arwen.
Alnwick Rotarian Joy Palmer – Cooper explained “Purple is the colour which symbolises Rotary International as a major partner in the initiative to eradicate polio from the world.”
“Money from the sale of the purple crocuses goes towards Rotary’s ‘End Polio Now’ programme and Alnwick Rotarians are delighted to be contributing to this hugely important initiative”
“Since the programme began, more than a million Rotarians have donated their time and resources in this huge effort to rid the globe of this terrible disease.”
“So there is a global benefit to the planting scheme as well as a local one – I always look forward to seeing the crocus bloom in Alnwick.”
