STORY FEST: Lots of treats in store young book fans

Next weekend Alnwick will be bursting with creativity as inspiring writers, film makers and artists converge on the town for Story Fest, an imaginative and exciting new literary celebration.

As well as an impressive selection of authors and speakers to interest an adult audience, the itinerary includes a fantastic range of topics designed to spark the imagination of young people.

Children aged 3+ are invited to join the Gruffalo, searching for hazelnuts.

Children aged 5 – 9 can join author and illustrator, Lucy Farfort, in a drawing session, to re-create themselves as a character in a book with the ability to change or improve something in the world.

What do you keep in your beard? – a question that may have puzzled many and children aged 8+ can join Lisette Auton to frolic with mermaids, solve mysteries and decide what they want to keep in their beards.

Have you ever dreamed of breathing fire like a dragon? An interactive workshop with writer, Caroline Green, invites youngsters to make up stories and imagine what it would be like to swap bodies with amazing animals.

Alnwick Town Mayor, Councillor Geoff Watson said “The events for young people sound wonderful and so imaginative. If a child learns to love words and books when they are small it is a passion that stays with them forever. The event organisers deserve a great deal of credit for giving such a lot of thought to the children’s activities, well done!”
