Bullfield Community Orchard Gets a Boost from Town Council
The Friends of the Bullfield Community Orchard have secured a grant from Alnwick Town Council to help cover essential running costs. The funds will go toward insurance, purchasing tools for safe maintenance, and hosting popular activities such as their Apple Pressing Day.
Councillors Jenny Garside and Martin Harrington presented the grant to orchard members Peter Edge and Treasurer Ben Bridgens.
“We are very grateful to Alnwick Town Council for this funding. We have enhanced the biodiversity of the site which is now a haven for insects and birds as well as local people,” said Ben Bridgens.
Councillor Garside praised the project: “This is a beautiful recreational space that’s popular with local residents and is a well-run community project. We are pleased to support its continued development.” Councillor Harrington added that he’s known the area all his life and it is “wonderful to see it being so well looked after with its own thriving community of supporters.”
The orchard, which is home to over 50 fruit and nut trees, a play area, seating, and wild areas for biodiversity, also received a commitment from the Town Council to
provide picnic tables.
