Mayor congratulates social media group milestone
The popular social media group Alnwick Matters has just celebrated its 18000th member.
Mayor Councillor Geoff Watson offered a bottle of champagne to Emma Cook, inset, to celebrate her being the 18000th member, but as the former Alnwick resident now lives in London her father Ian Bell collected the gift on her behalf.
Councillor Watson, who is also an admin of the Alnwick Matters Facebook group said “It is remarkable that we have reached 18000 members since the group was formed in May 2016, a milestone worth celebrating!”.
Councillor Gordon Castle, a fellow admin of the group added “Emma shows the value of the group to people who are connected with Alnwick but who no longer live here – it’s a wonderful way of keeping up-to-date with what’s happening in our fantastic town. And to our current residents it offers a valuable information service and the opportunity to promote community activities.”
Ian Bell commented that his daughter Emma still visits Alnwick regularly and that the Facebook group was a great way for the whole family to keep in touch with local goings-on.
She was thrilled to hear that the Mayor also presented her with a family pass for Alnwick Playhouse which she will use on her next visit home.
