Memorial benches honour the memory of Alnwick Lions
Alnwick Lions Club have honoured three former members by placing memorial benches in Thomas Percy Woods.
The seats are at the top of the hill in a spot that offers amazing views over the rooftops of Alnwick and to the coast. The wood is managed by Alnwick Town Council and Town Mayor Councillor Geoff Watson attended the ‘unveiling’ of the seats saying: “This has to be one of the best viewpoints in Alnwick and what a fitting tribute to these three men that gave so much to the town’s residents through the Lions Club.”
Richard Hall, Eric Telford and Jack White gave many years of service to the Lions and through the club to the town.
Club president Linden Dodds said: “These three members of the Club are fondly remembered by the current members, for the service that they gave so willingly and for their wonderful friendship and community spirit. We wanted to honour their memory and acknowledge the service they gave through the Lions.”
“We contacted the families of Richard, Eric and Jack and were delighted that they agreed with the proposals for the seats and that they all came along to see the seats in their lovely location.”
By coordinating with the families and the Town Council, the Alnwick Lions have created a space that serves the public—much like Richard, Eric, and Jack did during their years of service. The seats provide a place of rest for walkers and are a reminder of the impact that dedicated volunteers can have on a small town.
