Drug abuse charity supported by council grant
A grant from Alnwick Town Council is supporting a charity that helps people whose lives have been affected by substance misuse.
ESCAPE Family Support was set up by a group of parents who had experienced the devastating consequences of their children’s drug use and wanted to ensure that support was available to other families who find themselves in a similar situation.
The £1000 grant will be used to offer services to people in the Alnwick area including one-to-one support, counselling, respite activities and access to education and training courses.
Fiona Wardlaw (right), ESCAPE Rural Family Support Worker, was delighted to accept the grant saying, “I can’t tell you how grateful we are, this funding will really help us directly help people in need.”
Councillor Jenny Garside, who is a member of the Council’s Governance and Community Engagement committee added “Talking to Fiona, I was very impressed by the work that ESCAPE do in Alnwick and district. Drug abuse affects the whole family and ESCAPE Family Support offer practical help when it is most needed.”
