A Clean Sweep for the Town

The planned Alnwick town clean-up took place on Sunday March 20th between 10am and 12 noon with 28 people turning out to help either on the Sunday itself or on the day before or the day after.

This was a community event and involved representatives from the Alnwick Civic Society, Alnwick Guides, Alnwick in Bloom and Chamber of Trade, as well as Town Councillors & staff and members of the public.

The main focus was on key areas of the town and involved litter picking, cleaning drainage channels, sweeping, weeding and general tidying.

Mayor Bill Grisdale said “it is great that people take a real civic pride in their town. The work they did is amazing as is clear to see the areas of the town that had the extra “tidy”. It’s especially noticeable at the bus station, Column Field and Fisher Lane.

On behalf of the Town Council I would like to thank all those who took part in getting the town ship shape for the visitors who will arrive in the town over Easter holiday period”.
