A new and free inclusive play session is coming to Alnwick!
Have you heard about Ability2Play?
It is an inclusive leisure programme that offers young people with various SEN/Ds the opportunity to take part in sport and leisure activities within a fun and safe environment.
Northumberland County Council are hosting an Ability2Play stay-all-day multi-sports session on Wednesday 22nd February. It is for youngsters age 8+, and at Willowburn Leisure Centre from 10am-4pm.
Sports include dodgeball, basketball, netball, cricket, and football and the session will focus on expanding social circles and encouraging independence. It also gives the opportunity for much much-needed respite.
Using sport & leisure activities as a catalyst, the Ability2Play programme focuses on providing opportunities, expanding social circles, encouraging independence and improving mental health for its service users. This is achieved by creating a fun, safe environment where everyone is encouraged to be themselves without fear of discrimination.
Spaces on the programme are limited and on a first come, first served basis. For more information or to book a space please email Ronnie.scheu@northumberland.gov.uk or send Ability2Play a message on their Facebook page.
Ability2Play have operated in the south of the county for over 15 years and are now looking to establish a permanent presence in the north of the county. They are eager to hear from parents/carers of young people with SEN/Ds, the young people themselves and professionals who work within the sector and invite people to answer their questionnaire regarding activities such as holiday programmes, community after school clubs etc. The survey can be found HERE
