A Legacy of Service: Sue Allcroft retires from Alnwick Town Council
After two decades of dedicated service, Sue Allcroft is stepping down from her role as a member of Alnwick Town Council.
Sue and her husband Paul first visited Alnwick when her son was stationed at RAF Boulmer and loving the area they moved from Bolton to Alnwick in 2005.
There have been many changes in the town over the years Sue has served as a councillor and she is proud of the ways Alnwick has adapted over the years and her role on the council.
Alnwick Town Council was formed in 2009 as part of the local government reorganisation which saw the end of Alnwick District Council.
She recalls “Years ago we declared that the Town Council was not a political organisation and that a councillor‘s duty is to serve the people of Alnwick and I’m pleased to say that that is still the case. The council has a very professional team of officers and together we work hard to do our best for the town.”
In particular Sue enjoyed her time as Chair of the Finance Committee – a role that allowed her to utilise the professional experience she gained during her career in sales and finance.
“There’s a lot happening in Alnwick in 2026. I’m delighted that the cobbles will be getting re-laid and that the bus station is being improved too. The Town Council is proud of its role as a strategic partner in these major developments which included the pedestrianisation of Narrowgate. It looks beautiful now and the Town Council works closely with Alnwick in Bloom to fill the town with flowers over the summer. The council is always mindful that it is a place to be enjoyed by visitors and residents alike.”
“When I joined the Council 20 years ago, I wanted to be part of the process that cared for Alnwick. At 80 years old, and currently managing dialysis treatments three times a week, I feel the time is right to step down as councillor and enjoy just being a resident. Together with Paul and our adopted dog Bailey we are among those lucky enough to call Alnwick our home.”
Town Council Clerk Peter Hately offered a warm tribute to her departure: “It has been a great pleasure to work with Sue over the years. I have appreciated her commitment to both the council and our residents. Thank you Sue for all you have done.”
