Alnwick Civic Society Awards – nominations sought
Alnwick Civic Society is looking for help to recognize and honour those who help to ensure Alnwick remains the special place we know it is…
Alnwick Civic Society awards will recognize excellence and honour the achievements of those who have contributed most to the special quality of the town over recent years.
Award organisers want to hear as many views as possible and are inviting people to nominate a project or initiative that they believe has made an outstanding contribution to the town.
Past Civic Society Awards have rewarded excellence in heritage conservation and high standards in new development. They have recognised the effort and achievements of those who work to maintain the condition of our town, and those who have increased awareness and improved understanding of our past. Recipients have included major developers with projects that have gone on to gain national recognition, and individuals who preserved heritage in their own home for future generations, or made a difference to the appearance of their neighbourhood.
Civic Society Chair, Peter Reed said “We are opening nominations up to everyone because we want a conversation about what makes Alnwick special. Where will developments leave a lasting mark? Which initiatives have set a good example for others to follow? Who is successful at spreading the word about Alnwick’s special quality?”
“Anyone can nominate a project or initiative that they believe deserves an award. They can even nominate something they have done themselves (as long as they have support from someone else).”
“Nomination forms are being distributed widely, and are also available on the Civic Society website HERE
We are looking for outstanding projects and initiatives since the last Civic Society Awards in 2016.
We want everyone to have plenty of time to consider, discuss and prepare their nomination. So the closing date is 1 st September 2023. An independent panel will consider nominations in September and October 2023.”
They will use three criteria. Each project or initiative needs to address at least one of these, and the nomination needs to show how it contributed to:
- Promoting high standards of planning and architecture
- Raising awareness and understanding of our built and natural environment
- Preservation, protection, development and improvement of features of interest in Alnwick.
The awards will be made at the end of the year.
