Council sponsors local sporting award ceremony

The sporting community from around the region is preparing for the Alnwick and District Sports Council Annual Sports Awards which once again are sponsored by Alnwick Town Council.

Alnwick Town Mayor, Councillor Geoff Watson said “The Council is delighted to support the Sports Awards. They are now a long-standing date on the local sporting calendar and it is important that the talent and dedication of local people involved in a huge range of sports is recognised.”

Bill Batey, Chairman of the Sports Council said, “Once again we have had an impressive number of nominations from a range of different sports, outlining the sporting exploits of local people at not only a local level but also at regional, national and international levels.”

The Guest of Honour and speaker is inspirational Channel swimmer and fundraiser Gill Castle.

Fourteen awards, each sponsored by a local business, will be presented at the event in Alnwick Playhouse which culminates with the presentation of the Northumberland Gazette Sports Personality of the Year award.

Doors open at 6.30pm, there is no entry charge and members of the public are welcome to attend.
