Grant aids early planning for Christmas Tree Festival

You may think it is a bit early to mention Christmas, but when you are planning a popular event that attracts thousands of visitors, securing early funding is key, therefore Alnwick Town Council has just awarded a grant of £1000 to the organisers of the St Michael’s Church Christmas Tree Festival.

Rev Christian Mitchell said: “We actually start planning the event in May. This is our third Festival, and we anticipate an increase in the number of trees which means more community groups taking part and hopefully more visitors – last year more than 3000 people visited the Festival.

Councillors Jenny Garside and Lynda Wearn presented the grant to Rev Mitchell. Cllr Wearn, chair of the Council’s Governance and Community Engagement committee said “The Festival is a wonderful community event, bringing together so many different organisations from across the town – the trees are decorated in such imaginative ways, it’s a wonderful sight, full of Christmas spirit. I’m delighted that the council is able to help event planners get an early start and I’m already looking forward to seeing the Festival which is on from Friday December 4th to Sunday December 6th.
