How much did that doggie in the window win?
Northumbria Pets, in Bondgate Within, have won the Tour of Britain window display competition run by Alnwick Town Council in partnership with Alnwick Chamber of Trade, which was judged today by Deputy Mayor Sue Allcroft.
Their winning window used products from the shop and gave a humorous twist to the theme with “Barkley Swiggins” and the “King of the Molehill”.
Over 30 shops took part with some proudly decorating their windows using the Northumberland colours of red and yellow, which also happen to be the main colour theme for the whole event. The cycle race will pass through Alnwick town centre this Wednesday afternoon so the windows will give them, and the many visitors, a real welcome to the town.
2nd prize went to Hotspur 1364 in Narrowgate and 3rd prize to Glendale Paints in Bondgate Within who win £50 and £25 respectively. The Deputy Mayor was so impressed with the standard of the displays that she noted two others as Highly Commended, Cancer Research in Narrowgate and Elemental Tattoo Parlour and Body Piercing in Fenkle Street. She also singled out the flower display done by Alnwick in Bloom members at the corner of Greenwell Lane.
Northumbria Pets’ winning display won them £100 and two tickets to the VIP area at the finish line on the 9th September in Blyth (donated by Northumberland County Council).
Well done to everyone who took part!
