‘Intimately Connected’ – new exhibition at Bailiffgate Museum & Gallery

Bailiffgate Museum & Gallery is pleased to unveil “Intimately Connected,” a new exhibition taking place between 13th January 2026 and 28th February 2026. This exhibition presents the work of Claire Ward, a highly talented artist who possesses a deeply personal, long-standing connection to the landscape. It highlights a collection of art, that is propelled by a deeply intrinsic connection to nature. Claire’s artistic process generally begins with a found object, whether manmade or purely natural.

Claire takes inspiration from the landscapes and nature of Kent and Northumberland. Her work is sculptural and formed from found objects and her own domestic waste, objects that can’t always be recycled – this includes fabrics, plastic packaging, paper, cardboard and pill packets. Her work blurs the boundary between natural and manmade and often has a geological or natural history feel, building on layers to form a whole.

Claire’s fundamental bond with nature and landscape was sparked during her childhood, where she roamed pastures and woods near their Kent home. Observing nature and solitary walks have been at the focal point of Claire’s life ever since, continuing even further in her Northumberland home for around 25 years. This remarkable connection drives her artistic endeavours.

The “Intimately Connected” exhibit at Bailiffgate Museum & Gallery will ensure a captivating experience for all visitors, welcoming them to see how Claire transforms her personal connection to the natural world into a tangible portfolio of art. The exhibit will certainly be a meaningful exploration of a creative pursuit that is both personal and timeless.

Jean Humphrys, Chair at Bailiffgate says

Through her sculptures Claire takes discarded objects and turns them into astonishing works of art. Her understanding of how to meld and form materials into something unique, fascinating and totally captivating is second to none.  It’s a huge privilege to be able to host Claire’s work at the Bailiffgate Gallery.
