Lions Club welcomes Mayor following Civic Award success

Following the recent presentation of a Mayor’s Civic Award to the Alnwick Lions Club, Mayor Councillor Geoff Watson was invited to meet the full membership at their latest meeting.

Most members had been unable to attend the official presentation evening due to a scheduling conflict with the inaugural meeting of their new Friendship Club. Councillor Watson used this follow-up visit as an opportunity to chat with the Lions and learn more about their extensive community initiatives.

He also told them about further plans at Thomas Percy Wood and was delighted to hear that the Lions Club had voted to again support the project with a grant.

Commenting on the visit, Councillor Watson said: “Alnwick is lucky to have such an active Lions Club and I really do appreciate all that they do. They all give their time very willingly and I was delighted to award them a Civic Award, giving them rightful recognition for their service to the town.”
