Alnwick’s Christmas Tree Festival: A Celebration of Community Spirit
St Michael’s Church in Alnwick is aglow this weekend with a magnificent display of Christmas Trees, each uniquely decorated by local community groups.
Alnwick Town Mayor, Councillor Geoff Watson, called the Festival ‘a wonderful sight.’
“I must congratulate every person involved in creating this wonderful festive display,” the Mayor said. “The trees are decorated in so many different ways and by a huge number of groups – what better way to celebrate the season and shine a light on the wonderful community spirit within our town. Looking at the trees and listening to the Christmas music is a wonderful experience – I urge people to call in over the next three days and enjoy the experience.”
Speaking at the preview evening, the Vicar of St Michael’s Church, Rev Christian Mitchell, thanked everyone who made the Festival possible, from Northumberland Estates (who supplied the trees) and event sponsor Alnwick Town Council, to the dedicated organising committee and all the participating community groups.
The Mayor was then invited by Rev Mitchell to count down to the big switch-on, which was performed by Swansfield Park Primary School pupils, Katy and Kye.
St Michael’s Christmas Tree Festival – Opening Times:
- Friday, December 5th: 10am to 5pm
- Saturday, December 6th: 10am to 8pm (includes a Winter Market from 10am to 1pm)
- Sunday, December 7th: 10am to 5pm, followed by the Festival Service at 5.30pm.
Entry is free. Proceeds from the event will be shared between HospiceCare North Northumberland and St Michael’s Church.
